Alexander Schäfer joined the staff of the Council as economist for financial markets in May 2015. From December 2010 to April 2015 he worked as a research and teaching associate at the chair of Professor Weder di Mauro at the Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz. His dissertation dealt with the banking regulation in the aftermath of the subprime crisis. From 2006 to 2010 he worked in the equity derivatives business; first at Dresdner Kleinwort and later at Commerzbank. After he had received his diploma in 2005 he absolved the Master of Economics program at the Bocconi University in Milan. He studied economics at the Universities of Mainz and Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne).
