Suspension of Russian energy supplies could lead to a recession

Germany's dependence on Russian gas supplies is high. Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine has revealed the associated risks. At the same time, Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine is worsening the outlook for the economy in Germany and in Europe, which has already been affected by Omicron. A suspension of  Russian gas supplies is likely to drive the German economy into recession. Therefore, the German government should immediately make every effort to take precautions against a potential suspension of Russian energy supplies and to quickly end its dependence on Russian energy sources.
