Making climate protection efficient and effective

The German Council of Economic Experts has been invited by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection to comment on the draft for the Climate Protection Program 2023, dated June 21, 2023.

The Climate Protection Program bundles the German government's climate protection measures. Its purpose is to review the climate protection targets on the basis of a cross-sectoral and multi-year overall account. This is intended to help find the right framework for a forward-looking and efficient path to climate neutrality.

Achieving the 2030 climate targets and the transformation towards climate neutrality are major challenges for Germany and the European Union. In various publications, including the special report "Setting out for a new climate policy" the GCEE has addressed the issue of how to design a climate policy that is efficient and socially acceptable. Against this background, the measures of the Climate Protection Program 2023 are discussed in this statement. The statement is available in German only.
