Alexandros Gilch joined the scientific staff of the German Council of Economic Experts as an economist for macroeconomics in June 2026. Prior to joining the Council, he was a PhD candidate at the University of Bonn and a visiting doctoral researcher at the University of Pennsylvania. He studied economics at the University of Bonn and mathematics at the University of Göttingen, the University of Warwick, and the University of Bonn. As part of his doctoral research, he examined how financial and trade sanctions affect trade and economic activity in target countries. He also studied the empirical analysis of nonlinear dynamic economic models, with applications in macroeconomics and industrial economics, and developed quantitative methods for their estimation.
