Professor Schnabel is awarded prize of the Monetary Workshop

On May 4, Isabel Schnabel received the prize of the Monetary Workshop (“Monetärer Workshop”) in Frankfurt. The award recognizes her achievements in “financial markets theory and banking regulation as well as her analyses of systemic financial crises”.

In her acceptance speech Isabel Schnabel spoke on public deposit banks as historical precursors of central banks and the implications for decentralized, private currencies like cryptocurrencies.

Founded about 30 years ago, the Monetary Workshop consists of scientists, entrepreneurs and journalists who discuss current monetary challenges during biannually held workshops. Since 2013, the Monetary Workshop annually awards a price recognizing outstanding scientific or practical achievements in monetary policy. In earlier years, the prize among others was awarded to Otmar Issing, Jean-Claude Trichet and Markus Brunnermeier.
